She Whispered in Your Ear

This morning she whispered in your ear. Usually, it just the humming numbing your insides. Hollowing you out and dragging you back down. But today she whispered in your ear. You remember when they said it would hurt, it would take time, but it would start to get better one day— you stare at the ceiling, and rub your temples and decide that just for today you’ll peel away the covers, and stagger out of bed. You’ll put on your best smile, and pretend you’re starting a brand new life. Because she whispered in your ear.
