I know there is some goodness

By Linda M. Crate
and magic left in this world,
so I hope I can discover it;

I have had enough of sorrow
and sadness and let-downs—

so I cling tight to the small things
like crow song or blooming lilies,
creek stones shimmering
beneath the sun more beautifully
than the jewels in crowns, or the
beauty of the barn owl’s wings
gliding across the sky and through trees.

Every part of nature can sing a song
that lulls my mind’s harshest criticisms,
can quiet the hatred of those
who wound me —

nature has always accepted me for who I am,
has embraced both my feral and wild with
my gentle and compassionate and never judged me
for either.
