The best sloes come from high blackthorn bones

Later, we’ll slash open aromas of bygone parties, add autumn-warm to sugar and cheap gin, observe the deepening shade of liqueur, shake weekly to mingle. Bent-stick reach — brambles scratch, thorns spike. But, I already know my disappointment; burst-ripe purple bauble berries steeped in pound foolish gin.

Sandra Noel is a poet from Jersey, Channel Islands. She enjoys writing about the ordinary in unusual ways, nature themes and her passion for sea swimming weaving through many of her poems.
