Spring
Síle Maguire
Budding cherry blossoms extend their branches Twisting and turning as its tree forms inside of me Its last limb reaching out of my mouth marking full growth When I open wide, you can see a night sky freckled with stars Hope being the biggest constellation spelled out between the cirrus that gently Moves across the purple hue of my kingdom forming the scent of peace Coveted by the outstretched fingers that wriggle like meal worms desperately Wanting to be saved they latch on to my bark as I prepare to soar, but I know The breeze will not carry those that grip too firmly unlike my roots Unearthing themselves from the soil ready to be unplanted they are feather like The waxy tips of the leylandii that used to tower above now brush under my chin as I fly Exhaling pink petals that leave a trail beneath as my farewell, my beginning
