Self Portrait

By Taylor Stanton
I am a beetle
flying outstretched

I scuttle from petal to petal
so small you don’t notice

I’m here

gnawing on the magnolias
crawling over leathery leaves

a lowly creature in your landscape
I pollinate your garden

six legs
one mandible pair

I will eat the peonies next
