Light above the Bay

By Helen Fulker
Clouds scattered, bird torn.
Early forages along barest shine.
Mud still granite grey,
speckled with gull white and heron chalk,
intermittent egret
amidst the grass, hidden yellow and pink
orchids orchestrate attention, yet
wind whips sandy clouds,
dust dizzying direction.
Crows caw their sentinel plans,
see them play
dare dancing through dunes,
drawing the small light
for Soul music.

Helen has been writing poems since she was six.  Her dad wrote plays for children and her auntie wrote poems, writing seemed like the best thing anyone could do.  Helen has lived in Derbyshire, Liverpool, Hull, Reading and Sheffield but currently lives in Dublin.  There is an enthusiastic and supportive writing group nearby in Bayside who have encouraged Helen to write more.  Helen has two adult kids and two adult step kids.  Helen lives with her husband and they like to walk, read and watch films, all of which inform Helen’s writing.  Helen is also a post natal doula and celebrant in training.
